External monitor messes up app layout?

I'm running a iMac with 10.15.2. I run ViaCAD app and it works fine when I do not have an external monitor plugged in. With the external monitor plugged in, it messes up the screen layout (see picture) every time the app is opened. I've contacted the software mfg, but they're no help. If I unplug the ext monitor it works fine. Any suggestions on what to try?

In addition to un-checking the boxes in Mission Control, also make sure that Mirror Displays is un-checked in the Displays Arrangements Preference.
