iPad takes over on sidecar

Can I swap what is displayed on my MacBook vs. iPad? Every time I connect, the iPad thinks it is the primary display and takes over. I just want to move Word document to it and have my MacBook at the same.

You can manage your Macintosh’s primary display in System Preferences > Displays.
