I need to shut down my computer and I can't because QuickTime seems to be running in the background. I have tried all the things mentioned in older posts - using Force Quit, that does nothing, going into Activity Monitor and turning it off there. It doesn't appear in AM at all. I've also tried removing it from the dock. It comes right back. What else can I try? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I had a lengthy chat with Customer Service earlier today and was walked thru setting up a temporary user and then was able to shut down on that account. It worked for that account and mine also. I don't have the step by step procedure but setting up another user account was the trick. Thank you to Deborah for getting that sorted.
I tried doing that too and it wouldn't shut down. I contacted Customer Service and was walked thru a lengthy but successful process to get around QuickTime. What an obnoxious app that is!

I don't use Safari (not a fan) so that wasn't it. I have been able to circumvent QuickTime and shut the app off. I tried all of the suggestions people in the past have done and not one of those worked. I went into Activity Monitor and QT wasn't even on the list!! Anyway, problem was solved. Thank you for the tips (for next time).
What solved this? Please spread the word so many out there can know when they box out to find the answer they need.

Use [command + tab]:
Something is using QuickTime— perhaps Safari? So, quit Everything Manually:
Press: [command + tab] to exit and swap to an open app. Then, close the open apps, one at a time,, as they pop up.
Finally, Shut Down Manually.
