Quicktime Player says it's closed and open at the same time

My Quicktime Player is stuck between being opened and closed. When I try to open it from the Launchpad, it says "Quicktime Player is no longer open" like in the photo below.

However, the app is stuck in my dock at the same time, and doesn't allow me to close in any of the force quit options. Here's what it shows when I right click on it in the dock:

Please help! It's not allowing me to restart my computer because of this and I'm not able to force quit to fix it.

You can shut down the Mac by holding the power button for a few seconds, until you get Restart/Sleep/Shut Down options. Or hold the power button for up to 6 seconds for a forced shut down. Then start up again.

"Quicktime Player says it's closed and open at the same time": None of those options are working for me. When I force quit all, it still leaves QuickTime on the list like this: I'm not able to create a new user, probably because I would have to close all my apps, and QuickTime still registers as "running." I'm also not able to uninstall it."

To Force Quit QuickTime Player:

Try This Link: QuickTime player won't close and won't allow me to shutdown - Discussions Community. It is a bit old of a reply, but try it, and see if it applies. I do not have QuickTime Player, so try it, and see if it works. Remember to save anything, if applicable, prior to closing it.

Try This to Force Quit:

  1. Hold Down: command key
  2. Press: Tab key, until you get to the smileyface (Finder)
  3. Click: Apple menu
  4. Select: Force Quit...
  5. Select: QuickTime Player
  6. Click: Force Quit button
  7. Click: Force Quit

That unfortunately doesn't work for me. When I click force quit on Quicktime for that menu, it doesn't do anything.

  • Force Quit All:

Is there anything else running that you can Force Quit? If so, Force Quit it all. I assume the browser you are running is listed under there. So, log out of this, and then Force Quit what need be.

  • Try a New Administrator:

If that is of no luck, are you able to create a new user, log out of this user, and try a new user?

  • Reinstall QuickTime:

See if you can uninstall QuickTime Player (Drag it to the Trash). Uninstalled or not, try reinstalling it, downloading it from another computer or from the second Administrator created above. You’d run it, it would reinstall itself.
