No Split Screen

We bought iPad Pros for our students but are just founding out that unlike other iPads split view is not possible despite the device being larger and would make more sense to offer split view for. We’ve seen someone suggesting switching to “zoomed” view to enable this option but did not work nor would we wish to ever be forced to work in this view. It’s a deal breaker since we don’t want to pay for a keyboard case since we prefer using touch screen and plan to return them unless there is a workaround. Seems like a joke that my dad and anyone we know who owns regular ipads can use split view but our “pro” devices cannot.

The Split Keyboard feature remains available on all iPad Pro models except the 12.9” variants - where Apple have never provided such support.

If you don’t have a 12.9” screen, with the keyboard on-screen, either:

  • touch-and-hold the keyboard key at bottom right of the screen - where a pop-up action menu will appear - then slide your finger to the Split option, or
  • place fingers simultaneously on both the “f” and “j” keys - then side your fingers, in opposite directions, towards the sides of the screen to split the keyboard.

You should note, however, that Password Autofill from your Keychain does not work properly with Split Keyboard enabled. This issue has existed and been unresolved issue since introduction of iOS12.

I hope you find this helpful in clarifying the models of iPad Pro where the feature is available - and the mechanisms to access it.

All models of iPad Pro support Multitasking and Split Screen features - when updated to the appropriate versions of iOS/iPadOS.

As all iPad Pro models support iPadOS, you should update to the current version - at the time of writing, this is iPadOS 13.3.

You should note however that Apps require specific support for Split Screen - and not all do. Core native Apple Apps - and many major third-party Apps - already include support. If you have a specific App that is causing difficulties, you should contact the Support team of the respective developer(s).

I hope you find this helpful.
