How can I speed up photo uploading

I am wondering if there is a box or two that i need to check so that iphone pics are uploaded more quickly or more reliably. Took a bunch of pics at friend's house. I looked at them when I got home and deleted a few that were out of focus. Set my iphone on table and headed for bed. This morning I opened Photos on my iMac to do what I need to do and find not 1 picture I had taken last night was showing in my iMac Photos. I should not have to physically attach iphone to iMac, but that is what I end up doing. I've got plenty of space available in icloud.

Just to be clear, what photo transfer method are you expecting to do the job (iCloud Photos or My Photo Stream)?

If you are using iCloud Photos, can you check on iCloud.com to see if the photos were perhaps uploaded to the cloud but not downloaded to your Mac?

Physically attaching your iPhone to your Mac would not normally speed up either iCloud Photos or My Photo Stream. In fact, you would not normally use wired transfer in conjunction with either of these network transfer methods.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you'd like your photos to upload to iCloud more quickly. I'd be happy to share information that may help.

The speed of the upload depends on the number of photos and the speed of your internet connection.

To further isolate the issue, test in other user account on your Mac: How to test an issue in another user account on your Mac.

I upload to Apple photos on all devices and do not use photo stream. With this last incident, I took pics with iPhone. A few hours later I opened photos on iMac to view what I had taken. Message said the last update had just occurred and the new pics were not there. I checked my iPad and they were there. Quitting and restarting photos on iMac did nothing. Not til I plugged iPhone into iMac did I see pics. I am just looking for a way to ensure a quick upload. I did not look at iCloud on iMac, but will if I see the problem again
