My Macbook air will not recognise my external hard drive.

My new Macbook air will not recognise my external hard drive. I have tried several solutions. I can now see it in Disk Utility but I cannot access it and it doesn't show up in Finder. I need the information on the disk so I cannot reformat it. The hard drive does show up on my old macbook pro.

Have you tried resetting the SMC How to reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support

If that didn't work then have you tried resetting the NVRAM Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac - Apple Support

Start with SMC first and see if that solves it. If not then try resetting the NVRAM. Your data will be fine after resetting those parameters.

Hope it works out for you.
