How to disable Apple antivirus to install a 64 bit update to Seiko SmartLabel printer

I can't install the 64-bit update to my Seiko SmartLabel printer for iMac because Apple can't check for malicious software. How do I disable this so I can install the software?

You're wasting your time on Safe Mode or any other such startup sequences. Just right click on the .pkg installer and choose Open.

A message should then pop up confirming you think it's okay to run the installer. Confirm it.

How to turn off System Integrity Protection in macOS

Click the Apple symbol in the Menu bar.

Click Restart…

Hold down Command-R to reboot into Recovery Mode.

Click Utilities.

Select Terminal.

Type csrutil disable.

Press Return or Enter on your keyboard.

Click the Apple symbol in the Menu bar.

Click Restart…

If you later want to start using SIP once again (and you really should), then follow these steps again, except this time you'll enter csrutil enable in the Terminal instead.

This is the new message you see for any unsigned app. This does not in any way automatically mean the app you're trying to install is malicious.

While software from any vendor can be dangerous to install, code signed or not, the OS makes the assumption an unsigned app leans more towards the possibility of being bad than good.

ria36's response should be all you need to do to install it.

FWIW, I use the same software for my Smart Label Printer 650. About the only thing I would stress is that you make sure to get it directly from Seiko's download page. Trust it from nowhere else.

It's the second one on the list, which Seiko VERY confusingly started over with on the version numbering. The 64 bit software is currently at version 1.3, and the OLDER 32 bit only software is version 1.8.2.

Seiko doesn't make it easy to find their newest software. I just noticed I have version 1.4 installed, and the link I provided above only gets you 1.3. Had to do another search to find the correct download page.

No idea why they have two entirely separate download sites for the same software that don't even match.

The second link from the top, Smart Label Creator V1.4.0.0 for Mac, is the real, latest version for the 600/650.
