Using iPadOS 13.3, I'm not seeing any options for checking app updates in the App Store app.
Most references I can find indicate it should be on the following screen, but it's not there:
Did the updates get moved somewhere else?

If you pull down in the window it will check for updates and display any available updates at the bottom of the list under “Personalized Recommendations”.
