My daughters Ipad updated overnight and to be able to use it again its asking for the activation lock. My daughter does not know her Apple ID or password. Is there a way of getting into the ipad or restoring it back to factory settings?

If you have forgotten your AppleID, you can have a recovery email sent to the email address used to create it - and also reset the associated password if necessary - but you must have access to the mailbox. Once you recover access to the AppleID, you can recover access to the iPad and/or cancel the Activation Lock.
