iPod Touch 7th Generation - "Stuck" on VoiceOver

My son's new iPod Touch (7th generation) is "stuck" whereby, when we touch the screen Siri speaks whatever we touch; the date, the time, tells there are notifications on the device, etc. When we try to enter his security code to unlock the device, it does not work. I'm sure its something simple but I'm running out of ideas.
