I just set up my new iMac and would like to transfer files/applications from my old iMac (2009). What do I do?

Use Migration Assistant to copy all of your documents, apps, user accounts, and settings to a new Mac from another computer...

It's easy to do. Just follow the instructions. Also, I recommend that you connect the two computers with a cable USB is ok, but ethernet is better. Doing a wireless transfer is reported to be problematic and very slow.
Ronasara: Thanks for the reply. I tried using the Migrant Assistant but was told that my operating system was too old. I’ll try using cables. I’m especially hoping to bring my Sibelius software to my new Mac. I used my Carbonite and iCloud accounts to bring the other files.
Hi, sorry it off topic but please can anyone help. i am having editing errors on https://yoursilverlab.com/silver-lab-vs-weimaraner/with my mac pro but works well on windows. what may be wrong here. thanks
Update it to 10.11 (El Capitan) using https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206886 and then use Migration Assistant and you should be fine.
What version of Mac OS is installed on the old Mac?
OS X 10.6.8
