Clone OS hardrive

Hi

After spending weeks to configure a MacBook Pro (Catalina) running Windows 10 Bootcamp, id like to be able to clone the drive in case anything should happen to it. Not just backup of certain files but a full clone of the system which I can restore If anything happens to the drive.

What kind of backup software will I need to be able to go through with this?

I have an external 4tb hard drive which is partitioned into partitions of 2TB each. One 2TB partition contains my Time Machine backups. The other 2TB partition is empty. I have two questions: Can I add a clone of my hard drive to the empty partition without erasing the already existing Time Machine backups on the other partition? Is it overkill to make a bootable clone to perform the update to Catalina when I already have a Time Machine backup? Thanks in advance for any replies!

clone an external hard drive I have a MacBook Pro 13". I can't upgrade from OS High Sierra 13.10.6 to Mojave because I use old software, so I installed Mojave on an old external thunderbolt hard drive. When I want to use Mojave, then I boot from this old external hard drive. Now I want to make a clone of this old external hard drive. The old external hard drive has been out of warranty for over two years (and it gets hot every once in awhile), so I want to be safe and make a clone unto a brand new external thunderbolt hard drive. I think that I can use Mac OSX Disk Utility Restore to make a clone. I'm requesting ideas and suggestions.

backup from older OS to catalina I am about to replace a 2013 27" iMac running Mojave to a 2020 27" iMac running Catalina. I have a Time Machine backup from my current machine. I hope to use the Migration Assistant to move my files from the backup to the new machine. I assume when I do so I ignore the option to copy any System files from the backup since they are irrelevant to the new OS. and iMac. Sorry to ask, as I know similar questions have been asked previously but I need to be clear, most articles seem to assume a full restore from the backup

For macOS, use Time Machine
For Windows, look for third-party cloning software
For the entire disk, look at CloneZilla

Changing disk size(s) using Cloning software is tricky.

You can test the TM backup for bootability, before you invest in CCC.

Thank you. I forgot to mention that the clones should off course be bootable as well.

Is Time Machine still an option then?

Time Machine will boot macOS.

So, there's really no need for a third party clone software like CCC to restore a clone of the whole disk and OS ?
