backup from older OS to catalina

I am about to replace a 2013 27" iMac running Mojave to a 2020 27" iMac running Catalina. I have a Time Machine backup from my current machine. I hope to use the Migration Assistant to move my files from the backup to the new machine. I assume when I do so I ignore the option to copy any System files from the backup since they are irrelevant to the new OS. and iMac.

Sorry to ask, as I know similar questions have been asked previously but I need to be clear, most articles seem to assume a full restore from the backup

Hi Milvus70,

When you transfer, you can do the following:

  • Applications - Apps
  • Your Home Folder - All your Data
  • Other Files & Folders - Data from Apps
  • Settings & Network Info - What it States it is

So, I would personally go ahead and transfer it all. Or, of course, you can choose what you want.

Cheers,

Jack
