What’s $9.99 for?

It cost $9.99 a month to join Apple Music and when you end your subscription Apple takes the music away from you. What is the $9.99 for? I was under the impression you got unlimited downloads but no one ever said when you end the subscription you give back the music so shouldn’t I get back my $9.99 since they took back their music?

Apple Music is a subscription service, not a purchasing service. Your subscription basically gives you the ability to stream from a large library, and so that you can listen while offline you are allowed to download songs, though these cannot be copied nor moved to another device. When you stop the subscription you lose acess to the streaming, and so also to the downloaded songs. You can't reasonably expect to download possibly hundred of songs for just $9.99 and keep them when you stop subscribing.
