After playing an hour of ice hockey, my Apple Watch registers little to no exercise minutes

After playing an hour of ice hockey, my apple watch registers little to no exercise minutes. The heart rate monitor shows very intense activity. What the heck does the watch think I am doing? I used to have a fitbit and it had no problems detecting this form of exercise.

If I tell my watch that I am playing hockey, then it will count as exercise.

i don’t expect the watch to know that I am playing hockey...but certainly it should be able to tell that I am doing something that should count towards the daily exercise goal.

It’s actually not that easy to start the hockey workout while on the ice...and it’s hard to remember to start it. For some reason the touch screen often does not work well one I’ve started playing...likely because of the sweating...
