My iphone 5 is stuck on the year 2000, which cannot be changed under the general settings, date and time. I also am getting an error message that the server identity cannot be verified. Any help or advice will be appreciated. Thanks.

Probably of the GPS Rollover that took place on November 3rd, you need to update to 10.3.4 first which released for the iPhone 5 on July 22nd.
You need to connect your iPhone 5 to your computer that has iTunes installed and update your phone to 10.3.4.
