I have an iPhone X. When sending a voice message in iMessage it sounds very muffled and like there is a lot of background noise and makes it hard to hear my voice. When I tried recording a voice memo in the memos app, however, my voice is crystal clear. People I’ve spoken with on the phone also have said that it sounds fine.
Any suggestions?

I want to share my fix for the voice via iphone text message for iPhone X After being on the phone with support they could not help me fix the static and the voice sounding like in a tunnel. They wanted me to restore. I said that was last resort. So I surmised it probably was my speaker on phone somehow even though I cleaned the bottom speaker. There is a top speaker on the face of the iPhone. It had "gunk" over it. I cleaned it off and poof it fixed my problem. Very easy fix. Just wanted to share! LOL

I see you've tested recording in other apps, which is a great step. I would encourage you to make sure you've gone through the other steps outlined in If the microphones on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch aren't working - Apple Support.
