Apple Watch 3 turns off on its own.

I have had this happen twice in the past 3 months. Just past the 6 mile mark my watch shuts down as though the battery has died. I can restart it and it will stay on for less than 2 minutes and it shuts down again. At that point in my run the battery is typically at 40% if I have cellular turned on. Once I end my run it works fine from that point on. I use the Strava app. Today was light rain and 40° the last time was dry and 30°. Both runs were identical and the watch shut off at the same location. I started the runs at full charge. I listen to music with AirPods.

Hey there Mcameron2479,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. I understand your Apple Watch is shutting off unexpectedly on you. I’ll be happy to help.

It’s interesting the issue occurred at the same location twice while using the Strava app. The next time you see this behavior occur, I'd suggest trying the following steps:

If you find that the issue persists after using the steps to remove and reinstall the Strava app, or it occurs while using the Workout app, I'd suggest that you try unpairing your Apple Watch from your iPhone, then set it up again:

You may also want to review the tips and information in the following links to learn more about your Apple Watch battery life and see if this could be related to the behavior:

Let me know if this helps.

Best Regards.
