The 2018 Mini HDMI port does not support 3440x1440 LG Ultrawide monitors

If the HDMI port supports 4096x2304, then why won't it support LG Ultrawides @3440x1440? I talked to 2 Apple techs just threw their hands up and told me it's a problem with the monitor but searching around the web, nobody has been able to get this to work without using the usb-c ports. Of course, LG says it's a problem with the mini.

The model of my LG is 34UM95-P. It works perfectly with my 2013 Mac Pro (though I needed to use SwitchRezX when I upgraded to Mojave).

I tried HDMI out to HDMI in directly with several cables, all new 2.0 cables with full 4K support. I tried 2 HDMI to DisplayPort adapters, one from Keezing, one from Benfei. Nothing worked. I ended up getting it to work using an OWC TB3 dock for $300. I'm sure the extra ports will come in handy, but this was the only work-around I could find.

Hmm... the Mac Mini's is up-to-date?

I would try downloading and installing the latest Combo Update over the top of the current stand alone macOS version. The Combo Updates are the latest full macOS update versions and have been know to solve numerous stand alone update issues.

If the Mac Mini is on Mojave, use > https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2010?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

If the Mac Mini is on Catalina, use > https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2028?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
