How to make video tour in Google Earth Pro, save in right file so I can import into FCPX

I can make a video tour in Google Earth Pro, but not sure what file to save it in. When I open it in Quick Time Player, it comes in blank. When I open it in Finder, the little wheel just spins forever. Is there a good YouTube video that shows what file or format to save the video tour in so it can be imported into FCPX?

Mac mini, OS X 10.11

I have downloaded Google Earth Pro and tested it in my MBP running Catalina 10.15.2 and also my iMac running High Sierra 10.13.6. In both all I get is a completely black movie. So it seems this is just not working in Google Earth.

EDIT: some of the choices do produce things other than black - I tried VP9 and png. This did produce images but they were somewhat corrupted.

I've watched several YouTube videos on how to make the videos. It can be done free with Google Earth Pro. Saving to a file is not explained very well, so I have no idea which file or format to use when I save. Below is the choice of settings.

H.264 (.m4v)

VP8 (.webm)

VP9 (.webm)

VP9 Lossless (.webm)

MJPEG (.mp4)

JPEG image sequence (.JPG)

PNG image sequence (.PNG)

I've used MJPEG (mp4)

Other setting are: Video parameters

QVGA (320x240 pixels, 30 frames/sec)

VGA (640x480 pixels, 30 frames/sec)

SVGA (800x600 pixels, 30 frames/sec)

XGA (1024x768 pixels, 30 frames/sec)

HD 720p (1280x720 pixels, 60 frames/sec)

HD 1080p (1920x1080 pixels, 60 frames/sec)

UHD 2160p (3840x2160 pixels, 30 frames/sec)

Does anyone know what setting to use so when I click on it in Finder or Quick Time Player it will play? In Quick Time Player, a black screen shows up and when I play it, it's all black, no video is there. Google Earth and the YouTube videos say it can be done in GoogleEarth. I sure hope someone can help. Thanks for your reply Alchroma.

Thanks Luis, that comes under the "Output Configuration" file type. Still need to know what "Video Parameters" to use. I was planning on trying every one until I got the right combo, but that will take a lot of time. Sure would be nice if I knew the right YouTube video that explains in detail what settings to use and exactly how and where to save the file so it can easily imported into FCPX. Cruising to Hawaii soon and thought this would be a pretty cool effect to add to my videos of the trip. Thanks for your tip, Luis.

Thanks Luis, I'll give your tips a try. I'm sure I'll get the right combo sooner or later. That's why I'd really like to see a video that says if you want to save and then import into FCPX, then use these Video and Output settings. I'm sure you've done this before, so these will be the next setting I try. Thanks again for your tips. I do appricate all the tips I can get.

Hi Luis, I tried those 2 settings, H.264 (.m4v) & 720p. Once it finished processing, I went to Finder and went to movies where I saved it to. When I click on it, a little wheel starts spinning in the little window and it will spin for about 20 minutes. When it stops, there is nothing showing in that window and when I double click on the file in Finder, Quick time Player opens. The screen shows up and I click on the start arrow and the playhead moves across the screen and it's completely black. This is what has happened with just about every combination I've tried. From what I've read and seen on YouTube, I should be able to do this in Google Earth Pro. It's a free download and this is one of it's features. Any ideas on how to contact YouTube directly by email? My hearing is bad on the phone, so I never do things over the phone. In the mean time, I'll keep trying different comb's and see if one will finally work. Thanks again. Don

Sorry to bother you again Luis, but I finally got the video to come into FCPX as an MPEG4 video. When I clicked on the selection, the little video screen opened and the frames were all black. I clicked the import to button and it came into my main editing window, but the video was one solid color and no pictures. Do you have any idea why this is happening? If you're not that familiar with making video tours in Google Earth Pro, let me know and I'll stop bugging you. Thanks

Someone else mentioned doing this in quick Time Player. Seems like every time they update my computer, I lose things. They got my on Catalina now and I can't fine my Quick Time Player in Launchpad anymore. the only time it opens, is when I completed a movie and it opens to show it. I thought this was going to be a simple thing to do, but I just may have to find another way to do this. It took forever to do the video in JPEG and import it into FCPX. Thanks for your help, but I guess I'll keep searching for a way to make the video in Google Earth Pro or download another version that allows me to do this. This is a cool feature, and I'm now determined to figure a way to do it. Stubborn I guess.

I pressed and held command and space bar at the same time and started to type quick time and a drop down window opened with all the programs on my computer, but no quick time player showed up. Not sure what you mean here: "It is much much faster to import a video to FCP X than a large number of stills." I'm really a visual person, I like to see what is being done. Really sorry to keep you tied up on this subject. I'll keep trying to find a simple way to get this to work. Thanks.

I have no idea why Quicktime is not appearing for you. Any mac system that is correctly working must have it. It appears that someone installed the upgrade to Catalina for you and something may have gone wrong.

Just to make sure if it is there:

1) Switch to the Finder

2) Press command-shift-A (this opens the Applications folder)

3) press command-2 to switch to List View

4) Click the Name column to sort by name

5) Press Q

What do you see? Quicktime Player should be there.
