Recover an older version of a Note

I've been writing an essay on Notes on my desktop. What happened is this:

I had the essay highlighted. I moved my mouse down to the Safari app and clicked on New Window. I began typing very fast, and I saw that my paragraph was deleted -- replaced by the first letter of the question that I had been typing. I thought no big deal, and continued. I went back to Notes but accidentally clicked on another Note. When I went back to Note with the essay, I was unable to undo / Command Z to get my essay back. I checked and since it's connected to iCloud, I don't have the essay on any other device -- all got replaced by the letter 'h'. I've spent DAYS on this essay. Is there any way to review the history of the Note, any way at all to get my essay back?
