First, make sure your device has the latest version of the software. To update an iOS device, look here: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. To update a Mac, look here: How to update the software on your Mac.
Next, go to www.icloud.com and log in with your Apple ID user name and password. Once this information has been input, check to make sure you're able to access your email.
