The headers in column view in the Mail app have disappeared in OS Catalina. I hope this is the correct terminology for what I am looking for. I have attached two screen shots to explain.

I don't know what Apple Engineers think, but I never used the column layout at all. Serves no purpose for me.
Perhaps all of the users who allow usage statistics to be sent back to Apple never used the column layout.
Mail in Catalina doesn't have column headers. You can show a Column Layout from the View menu, but it doesn't have headers.
