Files on iCloud and on my desktop

I am wondering if it's possible to have the files that are in my Documents folders synced to iCloud but to keep the documents on my Desktop NOT synced to icloud. is it all or nothing or can I have somewhere where the files will remain on my computer hard drive?

It is an all or nothing sync. If you want to keep them from syncing, create a new folder in your user folder, and move the files there.
