I purchased the iphone 8 plus and asked for rose gold/gold and only the rim is gold. The back seems
white. My 7plus had a rose gold back. Is this new with the 8?

iPhone 8 Plus
Yes. The iPhone 8 (Plus) came in different colors than the iPhone 7 (Plus).
There is no rose gold iPhone 8 (Plus), the 8 (Plus) came in Space Gray, Silver and a new Gold finish which resembles a combination of both the gold and rose gold. To me it's looks pretty much pink / rose gold, rather than the regular gold.
The back is more creamish like while the aluminium band is salmon / copper like.
Apple does change their color palette with every iPhone.
7 Plus Colors: (Product Red, Rose Gold, Silver, Gold, Black, Jet Black)
8 Plus Colors: (Silver, Gold, Space Gray, Product Red)
