How to reset an old ipad when I have forgotten the account psw and apple tool does not recognize user account

I have an old ipad that I have not used for a few years. Our daughter wants to use it now. However the ipad is locked to the old account name. And the apple tool does not recognize my old user account. How to proceed the reset proces?
