How long can your Mac run hot until it is not safer anymore?

I have a 2019 MacBook Pro 13in with an 8th generation quad-core intel i5 with 8 GB of ram, and Intel Iris plus graphics 645. My Mac gets hot when I am playing games of any type. I usually play games for about 20min, But I want to play longer. If I play about 1 to 2 hours of a game, will that effect the computer's life. I am just scared because MacBooks are pretty expensive. Also is there any app that lets you know if your Mac is overheating and alerts you to like to shut it down?

The bottom line? Mac notebooks are not really designed to be "gaming" rigs. You should consider getting something from Alien Computers for that ... or getting an eGPU.

Regardless, when operating at high temperatures, your Mac's electronic components will "wear down" faster. However, as BobTheFisherman has pointed out, your Mac has a built-in "safety mechanism" to protect it when a certain temperature level is exceeded.
