I would like to encrypt a microSD card and I’ve look at this article but it doesn’t help me at all. There's no option to choose a scheme and even if I right click on the SD card in finder there is no option to encrypt. Any help would be appreciated!

In Disk Utility, select "Show All Devices" from the View popup menu.
Select the Device and format that with GUID partition scheme.
You may have to first crate the GUID partition scheme, then encrypt after.

It fails every time I try it. Here's what I get:
Mounting disk
Could not mount disk2s2 after erase
Unable to discover the Core Storage logical volume group. : (-69692)
Sounds like something wrong with the drive.
Can you at least get APFS with GUID?
Sorry for taking so long too respond. I am able to do it with APFS with the GUID just not with the encryption.
