Can't install Mac OS X following factory reset

I was attempting to factory reset my macbook pro 2011. After erasing my startup disc I am unable to download Mac OS X. I have tried apple support which was unsuccessful and my device is too old to bring into the genius bar. I have tried both "Command + R" to install OS X El Capitan and get a message that reads " a required download is missing." With "option+ command +R" i get "can't download the additional components needed to install." I've tried troubleshooting with solutions given to other community members and I can't solve it. Any help appreciated.

This is probably an early 2011 MacBook Pro that is missing the internet restore firmware:

You will need the original 10.6 installer disc if it is that.

The retail 10.6 will not work with it.

A clone of 10.7 or later would work with it, as long as it is only up to 10.13.
