Custom Background Image in iMovie

Hello!

I am hoping to do a "one-man-band" type music video in iMovie and am hoping to be able to layer my multi-cam footage onto a custom background image. I usually layer my videos overtop of the stars background, as it looks very tight, but I am wondering if I can import my own image to use as a background instead of the preset backgrounds. Any help on this would be great! Thanks!

Sure. You can use a custom photo as a background. Drag whatever photo that you want to use into the project timeline. You can drag it in from your desktop or from the Photos app, or from an external drive. Adjust the duration of the photo to match the duration of your video. Then use the Picture in Picture feature to overlay your video onto the photo background. With the PiP feature you can adjust the size of the video so that the photo background shows around the edges.
