Yes, the offer would need to be claimed on the phone as that is the qualifying device. Otherwise, it will only show the standard trial, which is 7 days. It will only start if one commits to the subscription and nothing will be charged until the trial is over. Once it is started it will clearly show when the billing will start. I also redeemed the offer just fine, have no charges, and the subscription shows that billing will not start until November of this year (12 months after I started the subscription).

If you had previously subscribed you would no longer qualify.
I don't think that's correct. I was just able to get a 1-year free even though I had previously subscribed.
I cancelled the subscription I had (don't know if that was actually necessary). Then, I opened the TV app on my new phone and was immediately presented with the offer. I clicked on it and almost immediately got an email and it's showing correctly in my subscriptions.
Make sure you’re signed in with the same Apple ID you used to set up the new qualifying device
You need to first activate and set up the qualifying device and once you’ve done that your Apple ID knows you are eligible for the free year. You can then activate the free year on any other device using the same ID (you used to activate the new device).
There’s been a few people that could. As an example; there was someone on here asking if they could get the free one year after they’d already subscribed. They contacted Apple who instructed them to cancel their subscription and then they were able to activate the free trial.
In another case I read with a person who had subscribed to one year and had paid for it - they obviously wanted a refund. They didn’t get the refund but got the free trial extended onto their subscription to now expire in two years.
I would speculate it not being combined with other offers means “ offers” as in other promotions (7 day free etc) or people who bought several devices thinking they can get several years worth.
It also works with gifts, although it says “ customers who purchase ....” the gift recipient can get the free year not the person who bought it. It’s my observation that it’s tied into the Apple ID activating a new device - that this qualifies it - as I mentioned above. I bought a Mac late September and on November 1 when TV Plus launched, I went onto my ATV 4K and activated the free trial on that - not on the Mac. As did other family members who got new iPhones for Xmas - they activated it on their iPads.
You need to generally do it from the eligible device yes, or through the offer's website: https://offers.appletvapp.apple/
There is no scam. The free year works, I know, because I redeemed it fine, and have ot been charged anything for the past 3 months that I have used it.
The terms state that it cannot he combined with any other offer, which would include the standard trial. I also confirmed that it was the case from Apple. Some users have been lucky and still been able to claim it or been granted an exception, but most have not.
This is what I get when I click on the get a year free link. Not a one year free offer

That seems to be exactly what I was able to do.

When starting a regular subscription it would start the standard trial of 7 days and hence would constitute an offer and officially disqualify one from obtaining the 12 month offer. As I said I confirmed with Apple that this was the official stance, but there can be exceptions.
I was well past the 7-day trial period so, effectively, I had not other current offers.
If you had previously subscribed you would no longer qualify.
Yes, those are the few I was referring to. However, there have been many more cases where people have been turned away or cancelled and had no option to claim the offer.

So for all intents and purposes previous subscribers would not qualify and I would rather stick to that to avoid any confusion. If they want to try in hopes that they can still claim it or be granted the exception that is their choice, but there is no guarantee
It wouldn’t matter if a user was currently on the trial, if a user had subscribed and been on that standard trial then officially that would constitute a previous offer and disqualify them.

Yes. All purchases of Apple devices (except Apple Watch and accessories) made on or after September 10 include 1 free year of the Apple TV+ subscription service.
If you bought an Apple TV box in November it qualifies and you can redeem the 1 free year directly on the Apple TV through the TV App, or through the Apple TV website here: https://offers.appletvapp.apple/
Me too. Do you have to sign in on the Iphone? I'm trying to do it through the email on my computer as I got the phone for my son but it doesn't let me. It says free for a week and then have to pay? Is this a scam thing where you don't realize they are charging you?
