iPhone 11 Pro Max - Incessant beeping on bluetooth

Hey all,

I have an iPhone 11 Pro Max and multiple bluetooth devices I use with it, most frequently my vehicle bluetooth and my workout headphones. Whenever I am connected to bluetooth, particularly with my car bluetooth, almost any action save for basic browsing results in a loud BEEP. If I tap the screen and it detects my face and unlocks, BEEP, when I receive a text message, BEEP, when I open apps, or close apps, BEEP, and God forbid if I change the volume via the slider, BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP, over and over. My phone is mounted to a magnetic mount in my vehicle, so often as I drive, literally any time I get a text message or something else that results in my phone screen turning on, my phone beeps. Even when I placed it face down on the center console, I still get a beep now and then.

It is the most obnoxious and frustrating thing I've ever had to deal with in a phone. I love the phone, but good heavens I cannot deal with this noise any more.

Please understand this is NOT a normal phone sound that is simply playing loudly through my speakers, this is a sound from the phone that occurs during actions that, without bluetooth, would illicit no audio feedback whatsoever. My phone is fully updated. Haptics is off. Nothing seems to work. I believe before the last update the beeps were quieter, but then following the latest update they are loud again.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi DrInfested.

The part of your initial post that is pointing away from this being an issue with the device is how you've mentioned that there are audible beeps with pretty much every action. In your initial post you said that the beeps had always been there but were now louder. An audible tone when you take an action such as adjusting volume is not a native iOS function. That includes via the device speakers, wired audio connection such as wired headphones or via Bluetooth. If you are getting that kind of constant alert, it's something that is native to the audio device.

You can isolate this issue further one of two way:

1) Use a Bluetooth device that is Apple or Beats branded and has up-to-date firmware for testing to see if the alert tones still play.

2) Try a different iPhone running the same iOS version (the current version as of the time of this post is 13.3) with your current Bluetooth devices to test for the continued presence of those tones.

If either, 1) the tones are not present when using an updated Apple or Beats device or 2) the tones are still present when using a different iPhone running the same iOS version with the current Bluetooth devices, then you'll know the issue is with the devices and that a firmware update via the manufacturer is your best course of action.

Cheers.

Hello Drlnfested and welcome to Apple Support Communities.

I see you're having an issue with the volume of alert sounds. If this is an issue with more than just Bluetooth devices, then check this:

Adjust the volume on iPhone - Apple Support

You can lock the alert and ringer volumes to a specific level by turning off the option to Change With Buttons.

If this is only an issue when using 3rd-party Bluetooth audio devices (i.e., if your car is not using the CarPlay system and if the headphones are not Apple or Beats-branded), then this may be an issue of the firmware on those devices not being able to read alert volume data from an iOS 13 device.

Pair a third-party Bluetooth accessory with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Cheers.

Hi Jeremy,

To clarify again, the alert volume is NOT the problem. This beep is not an alert, not in any way whatsoever. The sound occurs only when connected to bluetooth and specifically happens during times when the phone completes an action. As I said before, the beep occurs when the phone detects my face and unlocks automatically, it happens when I receive a text message in ADDITION to the normal text message alert sound, it happens when I adjust the volume on the phone, it happens when I pull up the GIF search in iMessage where it beeps periodically multiple times. These are not normal alert tones.
