I purchased a iMac in 2016, and I would like to know if its possible to upgrade the SSD and RAM? Is this a service that Apple provides.

Specifics will depend on exact model of Mac.
27" iMacs have a RAM bay on the back you can open and add or remove RAM yourself.
Some 21.5" models can have RAM added to them by Apple Authorized Service Providers. Apple themselves will not do it.
Replacing the SSD is not something done by Service providers on any models however, and is not supported by Apple to maintain warranty. Also some models do have the SSD soldered to the motherboad.

That would be wise, please only use Crucial.com or Macsales.com RAM though! iMacs are very sensitive to using quality RAM and both vendors provide very high quality products, have reasonable prices and offer excellent support. In short there is no reason to not buy from one of them. As for your SSD, you can consider an external SSD as has been suggested or contact a third party AASP to have one installed.
Oh, when replying to a message please click Reply on that message otherwise cannot tell who you are talking to. :-)
Apple Stores will not provide those upgrades, however you can contact a third party Apple Authorized Service Provider in your area and ask if they can provide the service. Please note that only 27" iMacs have upgrade able RAM.
Installing RAM in a 27" iMac is easy. No need to open up the Mac. You can find the exact modules you need at OWC, a great source for all things Mac.
You could also purchase an external SSD and run off that.
Ok, but if you're running off a rotational drive right now, running off an external SSD would make a dramatic difference. They're pretty cheap now and since you're not carrying the Mac around with you it shouldn't matter,
Under any normal circumstances 32 should be plenty. Are you using it for film editing, desktop publishing requiring a lot of rendering and filters. What apps do you plan to use? RAM that is not used = wasted RAM.
Thank you so much I will just go for the RAM upgrade to my Apple iMac 27-inch with Retina 5K display (Late 2015 – Current).
How do I know how much RAM to install? 64GB or 32GB?
I upload the odd Gopro video, listening to music, uploading and editing pictures, Word and Excel stuff, nothing too serious.
I've noticed a strange thing between 16, 32 & 64 GB of RAM, crazy as it seems the more RAM, even if not used, seems to allow smoother/faster operation!?
I think I will go with the 32GB as I’m not a heavy user. Thanks for the advice.
:)
