how do i connect a sonos speaker? do i need the bar?

You would need a beam, player or playable to connect to the TV, and then you would have the option to connect other speakers for surround and sub accordingly. While, Sonos One can connect using airplay that is more of a temporary solution and you will probably encounter lag if you use regularly for video.
