Apple watch phone plans compatible

Hey,

I'm currently on prepaid plan and can't use my series 4 apple watch with cellular.

Looking at phone plans now but apple says you need to be with Telstra, Optus or Vodaphone. Just wondering whether you have to have a plan directly with these three or can it be another company that uses one of these networks e.g. Coles mobile plans, as these plans are often cheaper than the above three.

Thanks in advance,

Brin

While you can ask those companies, generally speaking you cannot. If you could, they would be listed in Apple's list of supported carriers

The Apple Watch shares the iPhone's phone number, so the carrier must be able to provide that service.

If the pay-as-you-go carrier is a subsidiary to one of carriers that supports the Apple Watch, it may be that the parent company wants to use the Apple Watch to get you to signup for a more expensive plan.

Or if the pay-as-you-go carrier just buys cellular bandwidth from one of the carriers that supports the Apple Watch, they may not have an MVNO (Mobile virtual network operator) agreement that gives them permission to share phone number with multiple devices.
