I have a MacBook Air running Mojave. It keeps rearranging the files in my folders; whenever I open and close a file, it ends up in a different place in the same folder. How can I get it to stop doing this?

You need to set the View options on your mac/ folders. click on the Desktop and then click on View in the menubar and then Show View Options, there you can choose how to sort your items. Also open a folder and do the same.
