If you recently installed a new application(s), try uninstalling them and seeing if the issue persists. If the issue persists after removing the third-party applications you may want to reach out to Apple Support.

Quicktime Player opened fine in the new user account ... now I will have to research how the original user account could be compromised is such a way as to cause the Quicktime problem. If anyone has any suggestions they would be much appreciated. Thanks again for the help so far ...
Thanks for the info ... I came up into SAFE mode from a restart and from power off several times but still got the same response from Quicktime. Was not able to find an update in the App Store either. Quicktime has been misbehaving since I upgraded to Catalina several months ago. Don't know if the following is of any help but here's the 'crash' report I get each time:
Thanks for the suggestion, however, after following the instructions to remove login items I discovered that there were no login items in the list. Slightly surprising to say the least ...
