Apple Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter problem

Hi community.

I've just recently updated from High Sierra to Mojave and have just noticed that my Apple thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter is no longer working.

System Information shows it's connected, but it doesn't show up in System Preferences / Network. If I try to add a new interface (using the + sign in the bottom left) I am offered Thunderbolt Bridge / Thunderbolt 1 / Thunderbolt 2. Attempting to add any of these fails.

I've swapped out known good ethernet cables and restarted the network switch, but no difference.

The switch shows a connected light when the thunderbolt adapter is plugged in and this goes out when it's pulled.

Console has some interesting things to say, viz:

"/System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleBCM5701Ethernet.kext - dependency 'com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily' not found."

"com.apple.iokit.AppleBCM5701Ethernet's dependencies failed security checks; failing."

Can you help?

Best

J

Is this an Apple brand adapter or third party?

I have seen ref to a possible solution:

System Preferences | Network with the new location selection, I deleted all the "services" in the left window pane so it was completely blank. I then clicked on the plus sign at the bottom of the pane, selected "Thunderbolt Ethernet", then configured the IP address, subnet mask, router address, and DNS server address, clicked "Apply," waited a few seconds and...the light turned green, and I was back in business.

Hi Leroy

Thank you for your reply.

However, the article you link to provides information for how to manually change the hardware settings on an existent Ethernet connection. This is unrelated to my problem. The Thunderbolt Ethernet adapter does not appear in my network settings, and therefore even if the information from the article was relevant, the solution could not be applied.

Thanks once again for taking an interest.

Hi again!

So sorry, I should have been much clearer in my original post.

I have read around and tried numerous "fixes" involving changing locations and deleting config files.

There is no Thunderbolt Ethernet option when I click on the + symbol in the Network Preferences, only Thunderbolt Bridge, Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2.

The device is a genuine Apple Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter bought in an Apple Store.
