MacBook Air defaults to requiring password

my MacBook is ignoring the request to change the setting: Require password... after sleep or screen saver begins. It keeps defaulting to 'immediately'. I have unlocked the setting, and accepted the 'turn off screen lock', but it does not allow me to untick the box or change the time for requiring a password. Very annoying. Help!

I cannot turn this off in the Security & Privacy preferences panel - I unlock the panel, uncheck "Require password after sleep or screen saver begins," I get a dialog box asking, "Are you sure you want to turn off screen lock?", I click "Turn Off Screen Lock", and it goes back to the panel showing the box checked again. Impossible to turn off screen lock This never happened to me before.. I'm in System Preferences > Security & Privacy, I clicked the lock left-bottom and entered my admin password to unlock the lock. Then when I try to clear the checkbox at "Require password [5 minutes] after sleep or screen saver begins" it shows the popup "Are you sure you want to turn off screen lock?", where I click the [Turn Off Screen Lock] button. OR, I trie to change the value in the dropdown in the first screen (change 5min to 5 seconds, for instance). WHATEVER I do, it reverts back to the old settings?! I've already tried to remove the file com.apple.systempreferences.plist followed by a reboot; no success. I have this problem on my Macbook Pro Mid 2012, running macOS High sierra 10.13.6. When I do EXACTLY the same things on my 2013 Mac Pro, which runs the exact same macOS, it allows me to change the Screen Lock setting... I'm baffled.. Who knows the cause of this problem and the solution please?? Thanks in advance...

Missing the option to "Require password after screen saver begins or displays is turned off". I have two identical iMacs, one at home and one at work. Both have the latest iOS Ventura 13.4 installed. The one at home, under Lock Screen, it gives me the option of turning off the password requirement every time the computer is idle. This way I don't have to enter a password to get into my computer. The one at work, however, does not. The option of turning off this feather does not even exist on the menu. I am not sure where to go to update or find the option in order to do so. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
