Image Capture

When I use Shift + Command + 4 to capture an image, an email document automatically opens up with the image as an attachment. My Macbook never used to do this and I prefer to have the image saved to my Desktop as a jpeg or other picture format. Would anyone know how I can set this as the default action?

Can the format of a screenshot-to-clipboard paste be changed from TIFF to JPG in Big Sur? I have a keyboard shortcut for the (screenshots) 'Copy picture of selected area to clipboard' and it is very convenient in that I dont need to mess with the screenshot editor/markup/save process and often want to paste the clipboard <image> into a iMessage or Email. I have previously used the terminal defaults command to set the screen capture format to JPG however whenever I paste the clipboard into a Message it saves it as a TIFF. I was wondering with Mac OS Big Sur if there's an additional default setting for making the clipboard image paste output JPG instead of Tiff (some other, non apple users cant get at times). So thought id ask. I've seen other old posts asking similar questions (no solution I've found) for older versions of the OS; so was wondering if there was a setting or default I might be missing to make my pasted area screenshots more compatible with those I communicate with. The keyboard shortcut is immaterial here; just wondering how to get from a quick area screenshot - clipboard - past to Messages/Email in JPG format.

Catalina screenshot doesn't work I've wasted a load of time just trying to copy a screenshot into an email. Something that should be, and always was very easy. Now, for some reason I fail to understand, there need to be more options, and regardless what I try, I cannot paste the screenshot into an Outlook email. Outlook isn't the greatest, but it's used by loads of companies. Even if the screenshot is saved to the desktop, I cannot paste it within the body of an email. Any reason we can't do something so simple?

screen grab location Hello, recently my Mac is saving screen grabs to Mac mail, open a new mail and inserts as attachment. Previously it would appear as a brief preview. Can anyone help me return to the preview option please? thank you. [ive tried opening a png file and setting 'open with' to preview and apply all - no luck so far. I want have a Touch Bar either.]

Do you have anything installed that would affect screen shots? That is not a normal behavior, and as far as I know, it isn't even a feature of macOS.
