screen grab location

Hello,

recently my Mac is saving screen grabs to Mac mail, open a new mail and inserts as attachment. Previously it would appear as a brief preview. Can anyone help me return to the preview option please? thank you.

[ive tried opening a png file and setting 'open with' to preview and apply all - no luck so far. I want have a Touch Bar either.]
