Double-cloud with a slash icon - iTunes thinks these files are duplicates but they aren't.

I have songs with the double-cloud with a slash icon. Itunes won't let me add these songs to a playlist. I get this error message: This song is already in your icloud music library. I search for duplicates but I can't find them. Prior to this error message, I replaced lower bit-rate versions of these files with Apple lossless files, and deleted the lower bit-rate files and updated my iCloud music library. If I accept the option to delete the duplicate file, my Apple lossless file is deleted and the song is removed from my library. There is no duplicate! How do fix this?

Use the shift-start-iTunes method to create a new cloud only copy of your library, enable iCloud Music Library if it isn't already on. See if the low resolution versions of the tracks show in this library. If so delete them, then close iTunes and switch back to the main copy of your library. You may now be able to right-click on the Apple Lossless versions and use Add to (Cloud) Library to get them to match/upload without registering as duplicates.
