Corrupted Backup using external hard disk in mOS catalina

Backup was corrupt when using external hard disk (iphoneX+mOS catalina), but no old backup was found to be deleted, as suggested by some to be a solution; I’ve spent days figuring out how to backup iPhone in external hard disk but in vain, can someone help?

remarks:

-the iPhone X previously backup on the same external hard disk but due to one improper ejection, it hanged and I erased all the backup in it.

-In Finder of mOS Catalina, my iPhoneX was shown to have no prior backup in this Macbook before.

-the external hard disk is working perfectly fine now, like a brand new one after newly formatted

-got another user in this Mac, backup is ok using another external hard disk on a different iPhone

Thanks for your advices.

I cross check every steps, turned out there’s one more space added after the driver name in the terminal commands causing the error...symbolic link still created but two more alias were shown in the original backup folder instead of just one.

With the omission of the extra space, finally able to backup.

Your warm reminders did help. Thanks again.
