Deleted songs are not deleted from Windows

When I delete a song in iTunes, it is supposed to ask me whether to Keep the File or to Move it to the Recycle Bin. However, it doesn't. It deletes from iTunes. Instead it tells me that it will be deleted from any iPod, iPhone, or iPad that synchronizes. This is not helpful. I don't want to have to delete a song twice (once from iTunes and one from Windows). This is onerous.

Why isn't iTunes working like it's supposed to?

Where are the files that you're removing? iTunes will only offer to delete files if they are located within the currently designated media folder. Content added from outside is always left where it is with no prompt. See KillSelectedFiles for a script that can delete the file at the same time as removing it from the library, wherever it is.

Hi Farscape Fan!

I understand that you’re not being prompted to delete songs from your computer when deleting in iTunes, and I'm happy to help. Depending on where the files are being deleted, this may be expected behavior. For example, if you are deleting an item from a playlist, the file will remain on your computer and in your iTunes library.
