Referenced photos: how to delete images in Photo without deleting the original files

Hello there,

I have my pictures saved accurately, over the years, in a folder structure.

I want to be able to use Photo - just for browsing, not for editing/managing the pictures.

I therefore was thinking of importing the pictures as "Referenced pictures".

My question is: Should I delete the referenced pictures in Photo, would I also be deleting the original files?

Thanks,

MM

Photos will only delete the version in Photos. It cannot delete the referenced original. You can also create albums in Photos and add and remove photos from the albums, without deleting the imported photos.

If you upgrade to Mojave, the Finder may suffice for browsing. On macOS 10.14 Mojave the Finder can show you folders of Photos in a Gallery view, and also many metadata of the photos.
