In System Preferences > Network > Wi-Fi, there is a checkbox for the setting "Ask to join Personal Hotspots".
I don't want it to ask me about joining personal hotspots - I don't want to join personal hotspots at all. And I don't want it to join personal hotspots without asking me.
So do I check the box or not?

That only refers to hotspots you have already joined in the past.

I too find the language of this particular option a little confusing – if I leave it unchecked but have connected to my iPhone's hotspot in the past, and have it enabled as "auto-join" within the Wi-Fi listings, will it behave as the iOS setting for Auto-Join Hotspot set to always? (i.e. Enable and connect to the hotspot if no other networks are available…)
