Software update reboot loop

MacBook Pro continues to reboot constantly during software update mode. Computer boots to login screen, enter password, software begins to install, 40 min left, at 28 min, computer shuts down and starts the cycle all over again. Over and over again. This is a new MacBook Pro. Tried option+command+p+r. Tried booting into safe mode by holding down shift key. Nothing seems to work.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Robert

Boot into Recovery (Command R) and from the dropdown menu: Utilities>  Disk Utility> run the First Aid on your Macintosh HD (and the "Macintosh HD-Data" volume as well if Catalina) If errors are found and repaired, run again until no errors reported.
