App cancellation

I have an email from apple informing me that an app will automatically renew in a number of weeks and I need to cancel it to avoid being charged for renewal. However when I go into manage subscriptions it says the app has expired and I can’t cancel it ... how do I resolve this so it doesn’t renew ... ?
