Recently recovered from a nasty anysearchmanager infestation. It is mostly gone except in the browser cache. I cannot delete cache entries, tried all sorts of tricks and deleting contents. I suspect that I don't have permission to remove it. Safari helpfully does not log any problems. Where is this data stored? Is there any way to delete it? Thanks

First, read and apply Resolve issues caused by changing the permissions of items in your home folder. Then, return to Safari's Privacy pane and try removing them again.
As you scroll through that list, are all of them cookies? They happen to be stored at ~/Library/Safari/LocalStorage if you want to inspect that folder.

In Safari's General preference, enable "Show Develop menu in menu bar". You can then empty caches from the Develop menu.
Have you tried the free version of Malwarebytes?
I had same problem. I had changed permissions when using a 'test account' to diagnose an unrelated problem The 'permissions' fix referenced in the answer resolved the issue. I am not clear why Catalina cannot report 'permission denied' when permission is the problem of a failed operation.
Whatever remnants remain are probably inert, but where are you finding them? I understand it's the "browser cache" but it's unclear to me what that is, where you're finding it, and what happens when you try to delete it.

I cannot get rid of them. I even tried the Empty cache from Developer Menu and MalwareBytes.com free version. All of the Malware seems to be gone but something wouldn't let me delete them. I'm suspecting some permission issues for some file somewhere? Thanks
